Healing and transformation through a day of bliss...

Our Programs

Bliss Day

A day of rest, beauty, and care for those fighting cancer

A Bliss Day is the heart of the Lac du Genet Foundation's mission. For one day, guests fighting cancer and often the loved ones who care for them are welcomed to the Lac du Genet property in Sonoma, California, to simply dance, rest, breathe, and be cared for.

Cancer treatment can feel relentless: appointments, side effects, worry, and the quiet exhaustion of always having to be strong. A Bliss Day is a pause from all of that. It's a chance to sit under the trees, share a meal that someone else has prepared, and spend time with people who understand what the fight really costs without having to explain it.

This is not a fundraiser event or a formal program with a rigid schedule. It's an invitation to feel human again, even if just for an afternoon.

Where it happens

Bliss Days take place at the Lac du Genet property in Sonoma, California the gorgeous home Phil and Cheryl Genet purchased in 2014. The land itself carries the spirit of the foundation: a place built on second chances, resilience, and taking care of one another.

What a Bliss Day Looks Like

Every Bliss Day is shaped around the guests attending, but the spirit is always the same:

  • A warm welcome. Guests are greeted by the Lac du Genet community, not as strangers, but as people who belong there for the day.

  • Time in nature. The Sonoma property offers space to sit outside, walk quietly, get pampered, enjoy a healthy lovingly prepared meal, or simply enjoy the change of scenery from a hospital room or living room couch.

  • A shared meal. Food brings people together, and a Bliss Day meal is prepared with care for those attending.

  • Connection. Guests have the chance to spend time with others who understand the cancer journey patients, survivors, caregivers, and volunteers alike.

  • No agenda, no pressure. There's nothing to perform and nowhere to be. The day is meant to be enjoyed at each guest's own pace.

Who a Bliss Day is For

Bliss Days welcome anyone currently fighting or surviving cancer. Caregivers and family members are often included too, since the fight is rarely faced alone and caregivers carry their own exhaustion that deserves acknowledgment and rest.

Supporting Future Bliss Days

Every Bliss Day is made possible by donations. Your support helps cover the cost of hosting guests, preparing meals, and maintaining the Lac du Genet property so it can continue to be a place of healing for those who need it.

About Us

Our Story

Our founders, Phil and Cheryl Genet, re-met at UCSF infusion center in San Francisco on November 23, 2005. After a whirlwind romance that began in September 2006, the couple started their lives together in San Rafael, California. Cheryl is a cancer warrior, and has beat thyroid and breast cancer multiple times. Phil was always by her side. They share a passion for giving back and taking care of others. In 2014, the couple purchased what is now known as Lac Du Genet in Sonoma, California.

Phil and Cheryl are the epitome of a true love story, reminding us all of the importance of second chances, and later overcoming even more tremendous health obstacles. In 2022, Phil was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Lewy Body Dementia, and cancer, and he began receiving hospice care. No one could have predicted that he would stay with us through June 2025. Phil was happy to see the progress of the dream he shares with Cheryl come to fruition, as the first Bliss Day took place in early June at the Lac du Genet property in Sonoma, providing care for those with cancer.
